So You Think You Can Dance Season Finale Part 1 Recap: How in the World Did They Learn All Those Dances??
For the Season Finale we are reminded once again that they are competing for 250,000 and the title of America’s Favorite Dancer!!! Dan Karaty, Mary Murphy, and Nigel Lythgoe will judge the final dances. Good news that SYTYCD will be back next year!
To start the show off they are all dancing a Broadway routine choreographed by Tyce Diorio. How do they learn all this in like less than one week? Oh sure, a Tropical Storm Erin warning has to flash across the screen and beep through the whole routine practically!!!! We all know the storm is coming!! Can’t you do that during a commercial??
Nigel thinks anyone of the 4 can win it! He wants to see Lacey work with her partner more and Danny has made remarkable strides. Sabra, he doesn’t know what to say, she is a wonderful personality and performer and Neil is peaking at the right time. It’s all about America’s favorite dancer! Mary thinks they are the FAB FOUR and they are all on the same playing field. It will depend on the individual numbers for what happens tonight. Dan’s advice is that if there is another level they can take it to than take it there. This is it!!
Lacey is up first for her solo. Wow, that was hot! I loved it!!! That was Lacey’s best solo all season. Nigel thinks she is fantastic but sometimes he doesn’t believe her performance although she is tremendous. Mary said it was not the best solo of the show but when she partner dances she has been beyond outstanding. I appreciate Mary saying it’s hard for ball room dancers to do a solo. Dan told her she is a smart dancer, she knows how to work the stage, the audience, the cameras, the judges, and she has got it. She is pure entertainment.
Sabra and Neil are up first with a Shane Sparks choreographed hip hop number. It seemed kind of flat and not up to their level. Man, I just think they have got to be so tired. Nigel thought it was a bright summertime dance rather than funky. He would have rather had it funky. It was fun but not what it needed to be for hip hop. I agree. Mary thought it was fun but not hard hitting. She was expecting more and was a little disappointed. Dan pointed out that they’ve done hip hop better earlier in the season. Not good Sabra and Neil!
Lacey and Danny are doing the Viennese Waltz with choreographer Jean-Marc Genereux. They have great chemistry. What a beautiful routine and the music added to the passion. It was graceful lovely. Nigel thought it was so good. He felt they were figure skaters dancing on ice. This was the standard he was expecting for the finale. Mary needs people to know how wonderful they are and stood up to clap for them. Dan told Danny that he belongs on the stage and that the two of them together is just not fair. I agree, they really are fantastic! It was a gem of a piece.
Next up for his solo dance is Neil. I really like Neil. He is so acrobatic and his solo was just wonderful. Mary wasn’t so sure about him weeks ago but he has been getting better and better. Dan thinks he is dynamic. He always gives it his all, he owns the whole stage, and he is phenomenal.
Sabra and Lacey take on a Wade Robson routine. It is mother fox and baby fox. Lacey looks so beautiful and mysterious and Sabra was equally feisty and playful. Wow, that was a really cool routine. They were GREAT together. Nigel didn’t get it or like it at all. Boo on Nigel. I really, really liked it. Mary didn’t think it showcased their talents. Hmmm, I thought it showed versatility and was incredibly unique. Dan pointed out that they will have people who loved it and people who did not. Their attention to detail was really good. They did a great job. It totally drew me in and the costuming, music, and idea was original and really showed a different side to the girls. I so disagree with Nigel and Mary.
Danny is up for his solo of the night. Wow, that was a great solo. That was so brilliant! He receives a standing ovation from the three judges. Nigel told him there are no words, he is outstanding and every young man watching this show should aspire to be him. Mary thought he was just crazy and had to scream for him. She will never, ever tire of watching him dance. Dan wants to know what is in the water at his mom’s studio. He is phenomenal.
Next Danny and Neil dance a Mia Michaels contemporary routine. They are two princes fighting it out for the throne. I loved the music, I loved the choreography. Definitely one I would watch over and over again. Man, they’ve got to be tired. Really producers, this is WAY too much!! They got a standing ovation. Nigel thought it was great, masculine, and strong with great technique. Mary loved it. It was so believable, she could feel the tension from the beginning and she loved the irritating clapping Danny did to Neil. Mary will always remember this number and so will I!! Dan thought the athleticism was insane. Neil was raw and Danny was technique and refineness.
The final female solo was Sabra. It was amazing as usual. She is just a half-pint of dynamite. Nigel thinks she has such a marvelous quality to draw people in, she has got it, a piece of magic. Mary told her that for dancing just 4 short years she has everything it takes to win this competition. She is a miracle! Dan at first thought Dominic was carrying her through. But boy can she stand alone on the stage and hold her own.
I can’t believe there are 2 more performances still. These kids have been asked to do the impossible!!! They are super human!
For their final dance Lacey and Neil get to do the Lindy Hop. Okay, first of all this is a HARD dance with the need for energy and strength from start to finish and it’s the END of the night! They did well but man did they look tired. I can’t believe they had to do that routine LAST!!!!! Nigel thought they did excellent, a super tough dance to keep the energy up and after a whole week of practice and all the performances they must be exhausted and he couldn’t even tell. Well I could tell!! Mary loved the partnering skill because it was really difficult and they are so tired. Mary gave them a scream and sent them on the hot tamale train. Mary told Lacey she looks like she’s been doing it her whole life. Dan loved it. He thought it was entertainment at its best.
Last but not least is Sabra and Danny doing the cha cha. They’ve never partnered before! Whew, they are smokin’ hot. What great chemistry! That was so hot, hot, hot. I loved it!!!! Nigel thought they were superb with personalities and performance. The pair of them created magic. Mary thought they really nailed it by the end. Dan loved how it “happened” with them and it became so much fun to watch.
Okay, let’s get real now. They must have special super powers to have done all that was required of them for the finale!!! My vote is for Danny who should win it all!! I know we’re supposed to look at the whole season but he did no wrong for his last performances. Now I can’t decide who I like better for second and third. Neil or Sabra? Neil is so fun, dorky, athletic, and dramatic. Sabra is versatile and basically perfect. Lacey is delightful, consistent, and fun but I think dance wise she is in 4th. However, it is America’s FAVORITE dancer and Lacey is incredibly popular. I’m going to go with my gut and bet it all on Danny. No matter who wins it has been a fun, entertaining, and incredible season. It won’t be long now until America crown’s their favorite dancer. Hopefully America got it right and seats Danny on the throne. Could Mia have been foreshadowing Danny’s fate in his final partner dance with Neil? I think so. The coronation ceremony will most certainly have Danny playing Prince William and Neil a happy Prince Harry.
