“Lost” No More: Michael, Father of Walt is Back

If rumors are true than “Lost” fans have a lot to start ruminating about come Season 4 of ABC’s mega hit.  Gathering vital information from the deep recesses of my mind and remembering passionate conversations from my personal circle of “Lost” buddies whom I deem reliable and everyday people like you and me, I realized that we’ve been pondering the plight of Michael for the last season and answers will be coming in a sort of timely manner.

It’s not like Michael died or anything, he just floated off into the sunset.  Michael the father of Walt.  Michael the murderer of Ana Lucia and Libby.  Michael the betrayer of his island castaway allies.  He did what he thought he had to do to get his kid off the island.  He tried the conventional waysat first.  He waited for a rescue kind fo patiently.  When that didn’t happen he helped build a raft but got ransacked by the “Others” pretty much the first day into the journey.  They kidnapped Walt in the process and blew up the craft with a Molotov cocktail leaving Michael swimming with scrap lumber for his new boat and on a new mission to find his boy and get him back.  He tried to get off the island nicely, he really did but it wasn’t long until Michaels mind spoke to him that desperate times called for desperate measures.  He struck a deal with the captive “Henry Gale”, a.k.a Ben, to get a boat and Walt and get the heck off the island.  Consequently people died and people were betrayed.

The door was always open for him to return and we waited and waited all season long but not a glimpse of Michael did we see.  Our only connection to Michael last season was when his son Walt “showed up” to Locke as he lay shot in the pit of bones not too far from Jacob’s creepy shack.  Oh the questions that swirled after that episode.  Where did Michael sail away to and did he finally get his son Walt to safety?  Was he stuck sailing in circles while Sawyer, Kate, and Jack were locked up with the best creep on television?  Will he even return to the island in Season 4?  One theory from one of my e-mail spewing theories about “Lost” friends is that he will be in flash forwards.  That Michael is working back “home” to get them off the island.  Or maybe he is doing all he can to avoid anything to do with the island but in total “Lost” fashion he finds himself connected and crossing paths once again with those his life has forever been changed by.  But what if he does return to the island and isn’t just stuck in the flash forwards?  Will he be forced to side with the “Others” or be an uncomfortable presence back at camp?

If Michael returns to the island something must be terribly wrong with Walt.  Michael would never return to help the other plane crash survivors.  He can’t.  It would be nice to think that Walt is now safe at home and Michael is burdened with great guilt and wants to come back to help his friends…some of whom he killed…and betrayed…and abandoned.  No way!!  This is why he can’t go back to the island.  In fact he’s going to want to keep them there because if word ever gets out from the island that he murdered two women for a sailboat trip home than surely it’s the slammer for life.

However it happens, the return of Michael will surely complicate things for both the “Others” and the plane crash survivors.  Wouldn’t it be great if Michael brought an unwelcome guest from the outside world to the island just to drive Ben crazy thus further sending him into a rapidly descending tailspin as another intruder infiltrates his beloved island?  The return of Michael I’m sure will leave us exclaiming on our couches, calling our friends during commercial breaks, and madly and rampantly typing e-mails the following day formulating theories all the while complaining that although some of our questions got answered more questions arose and it was two steps forward, one step back again for unraveling the mysteries of “Lost”.
