I Want My Rock Star! Dave? Brook? Up and Coming Rock Stars? My Summer Wasn’t the Same With Out You…
Where did it go? Why didn’t it happen? Why did “Rock Star” not reappear for my viewing pleasure this summer? As “America’s Got Talent” and “So You Think You Can Dance” aired their finales I sulked a little on my couch thinking of what could have been. Where was my J.D. Fortune or Lukas Rossi? Where was my supergroup for the summer of 2007?
Fellow “Rock Star” followers and friends of mine all had the same questions and sentiments as I. Why oh why was this show not renewed? Remembering how my brother and I hovered over his laptop watching the webisodes full of good rock and roll drama while we were on vacation in Wisconsin or how my Idaho friends and I sat in their living room staring at their big screen TV as Lukas Rossi belted out “Rebel Yell”, I wondered who I had missed this summer? What incredible talent was still lying in the shadows still because “Rock Star” didn’t air?
Now I know that “Rock Star: Supernova” was surrounded in controversy because of their name belonging to another band and that they hardly sold albums and blah, blah, blah but who cares? The show rocked and every week I couldn’t wait to see what the rockers had to do. I loved both seasons. Remember when Marty Casey from season 1 sang Britney Spears? How about when J.D. Fortune ripped loose on his original song “Pretty Vegas” with a hook you couldn’t get out of your head? Then season 2 raged on stage and Dilana wore her hoody for her first performance commanding the show and then went crazy talking smack later on pretty much losing the competition due to her personal drama? How about how I had to close my eyes and shudder in horror when Jill tried to bump and grind on stage with “Supernova” and it went way wrong. I mean way wrong. Or how about Magni the Icelandic rocker’s AWFUL first performance followed by weeks of truly redeeming numbers after that proving he deserved to be in the final 4. Zayra. Need I say more? For those of you that don’t remember just think spandex outfits and crazy singing. Storm Large with her blazing beauty and larger than life voice? Toby our Australian hottie and runner-up. Then there was of course Ryan the dark horse. Oh, Ryan. His foolish tossing of his guitar to look cool left him trying too hard and then his blabbing to the camera’s that he would be looking down on “Supernova” on the charts. So full of himself he was. Winner Lukas Rossi had me cheering for him from episode one and literally had me sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what he would do next with the vast array of songs he was given. I’m all happy inside when I play my kid’s “Rescue Heroes” DVD’s because even though they don’t know that Rossi was behind the catchy intro to the show I do and I love it! Then there was Tommy Lee. Well, he’s just a funny guy and his “Tommy Lee Goes to School” show was priceless and I was already endeared to him as a child of the 80’s.
What about season one with the super talented INXS? Those boys were tight when they took the stage. I loved Jordis and her fresh and funky style not to mention that hair! And Mig the devoted husband and resident hunk? I knew he wouldn’t win because he was too put together and seemed more like a Broadway stage performer but he gave the ladies what they wanted by throwing his shirt into the audience on a regular basis. Sweet Suzie McNeal who kept hanging on and escaping the bottom 3 and of course a cocky J.D. Fortune who took the competition all the way to the bank and launched out on a very successful tour with his new band buddies. INXS certainly got their right guy. I know many people wanted Marty Casey to win but we have to be real! Marty was AWESOME in so many ways and his song “Trees” was well, genius but he wasn’t the flavor of INXS. They would have had to change everything and why mess with a formula that works?
Then there was Lukas Rossi, winner of “Rock Star: Supernova”. The boy with all his punk deserved to win proving himself with his rendition of “Creep” and his own original song “Head Spin”. With such great entertainment why oh why did “Rock Star” fade out of existence? Are there no other rockers, closet rockers, people who love rockers, or people who just appreciate good music left out there in the vast oasis of TV land? Did no one in producerville approve it of worthy entertainement?
Every week “Rock Star” delivered. They guaranteed a stellar concert every week by choosing awesome singers and performers from around the world. Brook Burke, the host was always in some rocker girl outfit that only her legs could fit into and Dave Navarro rarely wore a shirt (if ever) under his vest and necklaces. It was perfect. Bring back Dave and Brook I say! Bring them back, please bring them back with talented rockers in tow next summer so that I won’t have to look back once again and wonder what happened…unless of course “Rock Star” is slated for the fall and then I won’t complain anymore.
