Heroes: New Power’s Are Revealed and Claire’s Curiosity Comes with a Cost

Linebreak Linebreak

There are a couple of heroes we haven’t seen hide nor hair of this season and that would be D.L. who has phasing powers and his wife Niki/Jessica with superhuman strength.  Their son Micah with his technopathy too is missing but I’m sure they will show up sooner than later.  Plus Sylar is out there somewhere!  Right now we’ve got to focus on Peter’s missing identity and Claire’s irrepressible desire to be herself.

Right from the start Peter is in a rock and a hard spot.   He doesn’t know who he is and he’s tied up in Ireland without a clue.  Settled into his chair in the Wandering Rocks Pub in Ireland, he gets a bucket full of dirty nasty water in the face and a fairly good beating by the Irish man.  Seeing that Peter wasn’t going to talk he was left to get washed up by Caitlin the Irish man’s sister.  While sponging his face she witnessed Peter’s face wounds heal.  As she left the room Peter concentrated hard and used his power he picked up from D.L. and phased through the ropes.  About to escape out the window two men arrived and tried to assault Caitlin so Peter did the right thing and stepped in. He easily defeated them  with his powers shooting one with the energy out of his hand and punching the other so hard he practically broke the man through the wall. Caitlin of course witnessed the whole thing and Peter got into trouble by her brother for hurting the two guys who attacked her because they were important men her brother worked for.  The brother then pulled out a box that he claimed had Peter’s identification and said he would give it to him if he helped them with one job.  Oh no, he’s going to have to be a bad guy to find out who he is!  My question is how the heck did his driver’s license and stuff survive him BLOWING up in outer space?  What really is in that box?!  We know that at least his name is in there.  I would think that Peter could use his powers to rip the box out of the Irish Man’s hand and then fly away.  I guess he’s still not thinking clearly.

Back in California Claire’s mom dropped her wedding ring in with the eggs that were boiling so Claire stuck her hand in the pot.  Her mom gets on her and her dad does too about not doing that kind of stuff, she’ll get noticed!  Claire continues to get frustrated that she can’t be what she is.  Daddy Bennet is always having to keep Claire in line and regularly has to remind her to stay invisible.  Claire is not going to keep her power under wraps.  She is cautiously rebelling and it’s only a matter of time before she slips up.  Later Claire’s mom shows Mr. Bennet the newspaper article with the death of Nakamura on the cover and Mr. Bennet said he knew it was coming.  This triggers Claire’s mom to re-iterate that she wanted no more secrets so Mr. Bennet then showed her a painting by Isaac Mendez, the man with precognition who was killed by Sylar last season.  Mr. Bennet had painting number one of a series of eight paintings and it was of the death of Nakamura.  The other seven paintings were missing.  It has to be the other seven older generation group who are still alive that Isaac painted.  I bet you Peter’s mom is the second painting.  Meanwhile back at school Claire gets too eager with her questions in science class (which had interesting graphics on the screen showing part of a lizard getting cut off and then it growing back) as they talk about lizards regenerating.  This prompts her new guy friend West to pepper her with questions.  After class he excitedly tells her about the book Mohinder’s dad wrote but she did her best to blow him off.  As she got to the school parking lot she found her car was stolen.  Claire then had to go tell her dad and then got all passionate about her desire to be who she was created to be.  Of course Daddy Bennet hushed her up.  Do I see a volcano churning and about to erupt in Claire?

That night Mr. Muggles is watching himself on tape with Claire studying her lizards as she painted her toenails.   As she glanced at her book and then her little toe you know what she was thinking!  Claire then did the unthinkable.  She chopped her toe off with some blunt scissors!  Gross Claire!!!  I couldn’t even watch.  I seriously don’t think she would have been able to cut her toe off with those type of scissors.  Thankfully her toe did grow back and West spied on her through her window and saw the whole thing.  He “flew” off leaving the book by Mohinder’s dad in the driveway.  Claire ran after him and Mr. Muggles jumped up and barked at the air because we and Mr. Muggles know West literally flew away.

Matt Parkman was put on the investigation of the death of Hiro’s dad, Mr. Nakamura.  They found Angela Petrelli’s fingerprint on the photo of him with the red sign.  Ando told Matt that the red sign (or the black mark, or helix as we know it) means great ability or Godsend.  Angela Petrelli was brought in for questioning and revealed that the sign on the picture was the logo of her husband’s law firm and mentioned that her and Nakamura were lovers many years ago.  Matt Parkman read her mind about how they all did something terrible and someone wanted revenge.  He then pushed her to tell him who wanted revenge.  Angela of course clammed up, demanded a lawyer and then she screamed at him very loudly and adamantly in her mind “get out of my head.”

Nathan and Matt Parkman reacquainted as he came to pick up his mother.  Meanwhile, Angela got attacked in the questioning room by some kind of invisible man.  The lights flicker before hand (which I know we’ve seen before in past Heroes episodes) and she screamed and screamed until Matt broke the window to save her.  Found in Angela’s hand was a picture of her with the symbol drawn over her face.  She was alive but had several cuts on her face.  Who could it be who attacked her?  The only guy with the power of invisibility (besides Peter) is that bum.  I can’t imagine he would do that.  He is a loner on the streets of New York.  Did Sylar get to him and take his powers?  Was it Sylar in the room with Angela?  No, I don’t think so but who was it?  A new hero I presume.

Hiro was still in Japan and tracked down and woke up the drunken Kensei by dunking his head in a water trough.  Kensei thought Hiro looked like a fish when he talked, specifically a giant carp and then he passed out.  Kensei makes me laugh.  Hiro donned Kensei’s uniform to go save Yaeko and make history right. As Yaeko tried to fight the men who kidnapped her father, “Kensei” (Hiro) turned up, stole their swords and their bows with his powers and they all fled.  He then took Yaeko with him and had a romantic moment with her in a cherry blossom garden and disappeared leaving her with the blossoms falling all around her.  Hiro returned to Kensei, explained what happened and then Yaeko showed up to get Kensei to go rescue her father.  Referring to Hiro as “carp” again Kensei agreed to go save Yaeko’s father.  She handed him the sword she took last episode and as they touched it seemed like he transferred some type of energy to her.  As Kensei headed out of the house he got shot with arrows by the men Hiro ran off earlier posing as Kensei and Kensei died.  However, his wounds closed up and he came back to life!  Kensei is IMMORTAL like Claire.  He can regenerate!  That means that he is in the future too if he is immortal!  Our own personal Highlander!!  That’s why he was so great!  Will we see Kensei in present day New York soon?

Back in New York, Mohinder is with Bob, the man who hired him.  He found out there was another person out there who had the virus his sister died of and that Molly Walker almost died of.  Thanks to Mohinder’s blood Molly lived and we now know his blood is the antidote to the virus.  His first assignment was to find the man who was sick, heal him and bring him back to Bob so he headed to Port-au-Prince, Haiti and it turned out to be “The Haitian”!  I was just asking my husband about the memory erasing side kick to Mr. Bennet.  I was so glad he was alive and well.  “The Haitian” didn’t want to be cured but Mohinder does it anyway and “The Haitian” is healed and then wipes out Mohinder’s memory.  Mohinder returned to New York and Bob was annoyed that “The Haitian” got away but chalked it up to inexperience for the good doctor.  Later, Matt, Molly (who had another notebook full of the helix and eyes) and Mohinder were together again in their apartment with Matt and Molly sleeping peacefully.  Mohinder called Mr. Bennet who was at Copy Kingdom and Mr. Bennet told him that he was going to look for the paintings himself, Mohinder had given him all that he needed.  As they hung up, Mr. Bennet turned, smiled, and said “welcome to Copy Kingdom” to “The Haitian”!!  Together again at last!

Maya and Alajendro were still in Guatemala and it was revealed that they were twins.  That means he must have a power, right?  They arrived at Nidia’s house, a long time friend of the family to get passage over the border to Mexico. There was a woman who was a healer there who grabbed Maya’s hands after her brother disclosed they were traveling to America to seek medical help for her.  As she held Maya’s hands she told her that it was a new disease, there was no cure and that she was cursed.  The black inside of her was so bad it could kill the devil himself.  She then hurriedly left and refused to travel to Mexico with them.  That night they attempted the border crossing and Maya and Nidia made it through the tunnel but Alejandro got left behind when police show up and started patrolling Maya got stressed which triggered an episode.  Maya ended up with black liquid pouring out of her coal black eyes and Nidia was killed.  What a creepy “gift”.  Maya has some funky killer disease or virus she spreads to those within a few feet of her.  Alejandro found her after the police left and he helped her. They joined hands and he counteracted Maya’s virus causing the black to disappear off of her face, her eyes to clear and Nidia came back to life.  It was almost like he absorbed it into his own body.  Alejandro reversed the effects of Maya’s deadly disease and was literally her antidote.  They must stay together.  Their friend though freaked out and ran away leaving them to find their own way through the Mexican jungle and they had no idea where to go.

So with Maya and Alejandro braving the Mexican terrain alone, Claire not being able to stop her curiosity therefore revealing her power to West, Mohinder reuniting Mr. Bennet and “The Haitian”, Hiro saving history, Matt Parkman saving Mrs. Petrelli, and Peter trying to figure out his identity these heroes have a few obstacles to overcome.  Maybe Peter erased his own memory in order to protect himself and then left clues in his pocket so he could discover who he was?  That would explain his pants and items surviving a nuclear explosion in space  Whatever the case, it will be interesting to see if Peter does bad to acquire a greater good.  By the way, most of this show is not in English between the twins, Hiro in Japan, and Mohinder in Haiti.  Subtitles make you pay way more attention anyway, right?
