Heroes: It’s All In The Family
I loved Daddy Bennet’s Copy Kingdom shirt as he sat staring at his computer obviously disturbed. He now is aware via Isaac Mendez’s future death picture of him that somewhere sometime in Claire’s future there will be a boy. So like any good dad he asked Claire if there was a boy and if there was he would like to meet him. Here lies the dilemma. Daddy wants to meet the boy to see if it is the boy in the picture and Claire can’t introduce the boy to Daddy Bennet because he’ll recognize him as the man with the horn rimmed glasses. She of course in typical Bennet fashion lied to him that there was no boy.
Back at school the cheerleading squad wanted her to join and she told them she would think about it. Remember, Daddy Bennet had strictly forbidden her to join lest she get hurt and her powers found out. West then approached her and wanted to date her but she of course very reluctantly said no. He then convinced her that he would leave her alone and back off the next day if she would just say yes to a date that night so Claire finally agreed. Later at dinner Claire gave the oldest and lamest lie in the book that she had to go to the library for a research paper and we all know that Daddy Bennet was onto her. He tried to give her a lift but she opted to walk. This all sounded strangely familiar to her time in Odessa, Texas when she lied about going to the aquarium so she could meet her birth mom. Laughing at Claire even I know that if you are faking a trip to the library you should at least wear a backpack as she skipped out of the house all giddy down the street totally empty handed in no way prepared to do a research paper! Daddy Bennet snuck after her to catch her and poof! No more Claire. West flew her away before he could see them so Daddy Bennet was left in the dark once again.
Out of all the places West could fly her Claire chose to go sit on top of the Hollywood sign. Sharing she didn’t know if she could trust again and open up again he told her to jump so she could learn to trust him. Leaping off of the sign West caught her and held her close. Confused about him saving her because she could not die he told her that he knew she could heal but he never wanted to see her hurt. Hey now! West is the best. Put on your cheerleading skirt and don your pom poms Claire! Can anyone else hear her chant!! Give me a “W”. Give me an “E”. Give me an “S”. Give me a “T”. What’s that spell??? WEST!!!!!!!! Go Claire! Oh the drama of forbidden love. I love it!
Flying Claire home she is late and a lousy liar. She needed to come up with a better lie so West totally led her astray even more and told her she needed to think of what else her dad didn’t want her to do to cover up her rendezvous with him. Of course West needed some more lovin’ and smoochin’. I have a feeling Claire will be lip locking most every episode from here on out! Quietly entering her house she hoped her dad was in bed but no, he was up eating ice cream. He confronted her that there was a boy and smooth as butter and with an ease that probably surprised herself she lied and said she was at cheerleading tryouts. Shifting the focus off of West and onto a forbidden sport Claire pulled the “cheerleading makes me happy” card and made her plea once again for one thing in her life that was normal. Then she made a deal that if she cheerleads she will not date for now. So she promised through her lying teeth and crossed fingers behind her back that of course she wouldn’t date. After Claire headed to bed Daddy Bennet’s wind chimes began to ring. You know what that means!! It was time to meet with “The Haitian”. Appearing out of nowhere he told Bennet that they must go to the Odessa, Ukraine. So just as one lie came from Claire to cover up her relationship with West, Daddy Bennet would now lie to his family to go away on his secret mission with “The Haitian”. He lies, she lies. It really is all in the family.
Meanwhile across the nation Molly was still having nightmares and Matt Parkman couldn’t get into her head to help her as she slept. Whoever was haunting her dreams immediately threw him back out. Neither Mohinder nor Matt knew how to help Molly.
Back at the hospital Parkman united with Nathan Petrelli by telling him that he knew he could fly and that his mother was lying about the murder of Nakamura. He then showed him the torn pictures with the helix which Nathan had seen before so he agreed to help try to solve the complicated issue of the picture with the helix on it given to Nakamura and Angela. We also found out that Nathan’s kids were in Washington D.C. in a private school and until he quits getting drunk and sobers up he won’t be seeing them too often. Nathan who was now clean shaven requested a few moments alone with his mother and tried to convince his mother admit she did not kill Nakamura. To Angela though she has done so many bad things in her life that it didn’t really matter what crime she got put away for. She didn’t want to lose Nathan like she lost Peter. What did that group do?!! Both she and Nakamura talked about all of their sins, they must have been pretty bad.
Later that night Nathan dug for the photo with Parkman. He knew that it had his mom, dad, Linderman, Nakamura, and Charles Deveaux in it. Charles was the man Peter was a nurse for last season. Peter later fell in love with his daughter Simone who was first Isaac Mendez’s girlfriend before he lost her to his heroine use and then later she was murdered. Parkman then shared with Nathan that his wife cheated on him and then got pregnant with another man’s baby. Now we know what happened! Finally Nathan found the picture and boy was I ever excited! Bob, the man who is Mohinder’s boss was in the picture and then Parkman made a disturbing discovery. His father was in the picture! Oh the answers we are getting and the questions that are being raised!!
Parkman then raced home for Molly to use her special power to locate his dad. As he showed her the picture she freaked out and told Matt to put the picture away. He was the man in her dreams. He was the “nightmare man”. Oh no, this is bad. Matt’s dad is the Boogey Man of Molly’s dreams? That means he is a very, very bad man. As her eyes welled up with tears you could see the faint picture of the helix in them.
Later Mohinder and Parkman argued about Molly finding his dad after she fell asleep but she awoke and said with confidence that she would do it for him. She would find his father. Sitting in front of a map with a push pin Molly began her search for the man. He was in Philadelphia. He was in an apartment building. He was on the 3rd floor. He was behind door 9. She said he was coming and he could see her and then passed out and went into shock. As Matt read her thoughts and dreams he heard her yell “Matt, help me. Matt!!!!!”
Thousands of miles away somewhere in Mexico Maya, Alejandro, and Derek were headed to America. Maya thought Derek was from California but really he was from New Jersey. Here we find out Maya spoke English but Alejandro didn’t. Interesting. They are twins so why does she know English and her brother does not? Derek pointed out that chances were they would be looking for them at the border so they had to think of a plan. Whoa! Stop the car! Guy lying in the road. Oh no!! It was Sylar lying on his belly saying “help me”. Oh if they only knew to leave him there and run him over a few times.
Derek was immediately suspicious of Sylar and wanted to know where Sylar’s stuff was. Sylar said he was robbed and had been walking for three days. Well, I guess it takes one criminal to know one. “Fortunately” for Maya and Alejandro Sylar too was headed to New York which led Maya to show Sylar Dr. Suresh’s book which was in Spanish and had the helix on the front. This was playing out like a bad horror movie. You know the kind where the girl walks into the dark room or the woods and you are yelling “don’t go in there, don’t go in there!!!” I was like “don’t show Sylar, don’t show Sylar!!” Alejandro was mad at her for spilling the beans but she was so grateful for Sylar and asked for his name. He gave his real name Gabriel as he looked at his broken watch that said Sylar. I actually believed him for one second that maybe he was nice. But it was only for a split second because he got an evil grin as he looked out the window. Maya told him he was like the angel Gabriel. NO WAY. The angel Gabriel didn’t take his winnowing sword and slice out brains!!! Sylar is more like the angel of death!
Next the new gang of unlikely friends made a pit stop. Derek saw a newspaper with Maya and Alejandro’s wanted picture on it and told Gabriel about it. They had to do something. Poor Derek. He had no idea what he had coming to him. As Derek ran to call the police Sylar slinked in after him with his super evil eye that he gets and bashed Derek’s head in with a rock (his choice of death blows…remember the coffee cup last week?). Then he confronted Maya and Alejandro causing her to stress out and they both showed their powers. Oh boy, Sylar was practically salivating for their brains I’m sure. Meanwhile, Derek is dead (or is he) on the floor in a pool of blood and there is that cockroach again! What is up with that cockroach?
Last week we saw that Niki Sanders had left her son Micah in New Orleans. He woke up to his cousin dumping water on his head. He is officially at the Dawson home. His cousin goes on and on about needing $65.00 for pay-per-view and his sister Monica kept looking at the TV. Something was definitely up with that. There was a cooking show on and she fixated on the lady making a rose out of a tomato. Monica had high aspirations. She worked at a restaurant and wanted to be a manager. Her little brother still was whining about needing pay-per-view as she left for work and Micah chimed in quietly that he may know how to get the kid what he wants.
Meanwhile, Monica Dawson headed to work at Burger Bonanza. She had big dreams and even though Hurricane Katrina hit she still was reaching for them. As she chatted with her friend she has known since childhood she unknowingly made a tomato rose like she saw on TV. Oh cool. What is her special gift? Whatever it is it is totally linked to the TV. Staring at her perfect rose creation she was called back to her bosses office and found out she didn’t get the management job. Still determined she knew there was more in her.
Back at home Micah tapped into the cable TV to get his cousin pay-per-view. Grandma was sleeping and Monica of course was ticked when she got home thinking that her brother had somehow got the money somewhere so he could watch the fight. He quickly shared that genius Micah rigged the cable somehow. Monica let them keep watching and gave them their dinner so Micah hugged her and felt her back and then told her that he wished he could fix her dreams for her. That was an interesting expression of Micah’s gift. This whole time I thought it was strictly related to electronics. As she turned to look at the pro wrestling on TV you could tell her eyes and brain were computing. It was like she could take stuff from the TV and do it automatically. Oh I love that power. SOOOOOOOOO cool, unless you don’t have a TV then you wouldn’t know you had any power at all!!
Later Monica was back at Burger Bonanza for the night shift and was told to lock up early. She went to lock up and someone tried to rob the store. As he fumbled through her cash register she kicked into her power zone and did her pro wrestling move she saw on TV and totally knocked him across the restaurant. Her boss wanted to know where she learned that!! She told him she learned it on TV. Nice!
Next week will certainly give us some of the answers we are looking for as Kristen Bell joins the cast of Heroes. We know she has the key to Peter’s future. We also know that Peter taps into his gift to paint the future, that Niki throws Mohinder against a wall, that matt sees his wife and her baby, and that Nathan maybe finds Peter? I think it might be Hiro coming in for a crash landing personally from the past. It will be an episode where nothing is what it seems. Isn’t that what every episode is like? Hopefully Peter gets a heavy revvy of who he really is and gets a well deserved reunion with his brother Nathan. Meanwhile lets hope that Maya and Alejandro survive Sylar or rather that Sylar survives them!
