Got a hot new date you can’t wait to impress? Don’t want to look foolish in front of your new amour? It’s natural to be nervous on a first date, but with these great first-date ideas and dating tips, you won’t be at a lack for things to do or talk about. With a little luck and the right combination of skills, it could lead to future dating adventures!

Tip #1
On your first date, come to a mutual agreement about where to go. In other words, no “surprise” dates! Imagine how horrible it would be to find out you completely misread your vegetarian partner and took them to a steak house for dinner. By communicating together about a proper date location, you’re also getting to know a little bit more about where their interests lie.

Tip #2
Relax! Of course nerves are an essential part of a first date, but act too nervous and you could be ending the night early. The person obviously liked you, or you wouldn’t be on a date in the first place. Let that be your mantra for the night until you feel comfortable.

Tip #3
Steer clear of conversation topics like marriage and kids. You two haven’t been attached at the hip for two years, it’s a first date! With that being said, if you don’t want to end the date early this is a surefire conversation starter — sure to get you home early, that is!

Tip #4
Be yourself. It sounds simple, but it’s surprising how many people lie to impress a new date. If you’re open and honest from the get-go, it sends a subconscious message to your partner that you can be trusted.

Tip #5
Try going to an open playground and take along a picnic. This works great for an early lunch date or a romantic evening adventure. Plus, if you bring along a frisbee or some baseball bats and a ball, you won’t be at a lack for things to talk about!

New dates are a great way to assess a potential long-term partner. Don’t let your nerves scare you off, and you could be well on your way to a second date halfway through the first! By following the above advice, you’ll ensure a comfortable, exciting environment for the both of you.
